Justice for Children entered into a partnership with World Education in Implementing Vana Bantwana (Gender based violence prevention and responses) Project. The project covers Harare and Mashonaland West. Its objectives are:
- To build capacity of communities and local service providers to sustainably care for survivors of gender based violence.
- To build capacity of Government of Zimbabwe Social services to sustainably care for gender based survivors.
- To improve gender based violence response services.
- To improve attitudes towards Gender based violence.
The project strengthened the capacity of Child Protection Committee members and paralegals to sustainably care for gender based violence survivors with support from the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Gender and Community Development. Traditional leaders from Mashonaland West were also trained to build their capacity to handle gender based violence cases. Child protection committees were also trained in case management system to ensure that children receive comprehensive services. The project provides free legal services to gender based violence survivors in Chinhoyi and Harare. Community dialogues on Gender Based Violence were also conducted in Mhondoro and Budiriro.
