  • JCT, as a member of the National Steering Committee for the Pre Trial Diversion Project, advocated for the rights of Children in Conflict with the Law, which saw an increase of referrals of juveniles to JCT and other defence lawyers upholding children’s rights.

     

  • JCT developed a Juvenile Justice Handbook in 2010 which was further reviewed in 2012.

     

  • JCT is working on the Constitutional Case on Corporal Punishment on juvenile offenders.

     

  • JCT was at the forefront advocating for the inclusion of children’s rights in the Constitution of Zimbabwe in partnership with the Ministry of Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs and UNICEF. The Zimbabwean Constitution now enshrines children’s rights.

     

  • JCT’s staff members have emerged as leading experts in the child rights sector. The Projects Coordinator- (Ms. Sandra Muengwa) trained on Pre-Trial Diversion Programme and the Director (Mr Caleb Mutandwa) has led in State Party Reporting and Alternative Reports to treaty bodies.

     

  • JCT had been actively working on the re-alignment of laws to the new Constitution such as the Bill on ending child marriages, marriage laws and laws on corporal punishment.

     

  • JCT is a key organisation on research on child protection and child rights for instance the Child Rights Situational Analysis for SOS Children’s Villages and Justice for Children Sector Analysis with Danish Institute of Human Rights (DIHR).

     

  • JCT is a lead organisation in the development of child protection policies among civic society organisations.

     

  • Lead organisation on international advocacy such as the capacity building of the state in its reporting obligation on Universal Periodic Review (UPR) and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and Alternative Report on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC) for the Child Rights Coalition.

     

  • JCT is an active memberof the Victim Friendly Court System and Pre-trial Diversion Program.

     

  • JCT increased its visibility through the use of social media such as Facebook, the organisational website and the WhatsApp platform.

     

  • There is an increased engagement of community leaders through community dialogues.

     

  • JCT has responded to emerging child protection issues.

     

  • In all its activities, JCT has promoted child participation.
